We do not believe that this advice is necessarily accurate. It is important to realize that consumer confidence going up does not mean that this is a good time to make purchases. A lot of these deals stemmed from the fact that there was an oversupply of repossessed cars for sale – anyone who was willing to spend cash during the recession would be able to get a great price on their vehicle.

These days, there are a lot less of these repo cars around, but there are still some non traditional options – for example, there are a lot of salvage cars for sale. This is good if you are looking for a beater, but be careful to inspect the car as much as possible before purchase – you do not want to end up with a piece of junk that will break down within a few days, and cost you more in maintenance than the cost of the vehicle itself.
