Avoiding Cash For Gold Scams
64
With a lot of consumers looking for ways to get some extra cash, there are even more people and companies out there waiting to take advantage of these individuals. While work from home hoaxes have been around for quite some time, there are new ways that the con artist is ripping people off. Just about everyone has seen the commercials, bill boards and other advertisements telling the consumer that they can sell old or unused gold jewelry for high profits. However, some of these offers may not be entirely legitimate and are considered cash for gold scams.
Gold Scams
Many are targeting the consumer with false claims of receiving compensation for such items. Once the person has given the so called company these precious metals, they no longer hear from them. Then, the scammer takes these items and sells them for him or herself. In many cases, one doesn’t even realize that they are being duped until their belongings are long gone and they are left empty handed.
Are Any of These Businesses Legitimate?
Contrary to popular belief, there are establishments that do as they promise. As with any other type of business, there will be dishonest people. However, many of these companies do provide not only a legitimate, but quality service. One must take the time to look around and take the necessary precautions to avoid being scammed.
Questions You Should Ask
One of the easiest and smartest ways to ensure one is dealing with a reputable service is by asking cash for gold questions and investigating. The consumer should enquire about how long the company has been in business, obtain contact information and ask about when and how payments are received. If the representative cannot answer these questions, one should reconsider before handing anything over. In addition to this, you can make sure the contact info is correct. If no one can be reached and no information is available on these details, steer clear.
Other things you need to know are, how much do they pay per gram? If they don't list their prices I would pass, also, make sure you know what you have i.e. how many grams does that necklace actually weigh? If you know the weight in grams and what the company will pay you per gram it's quite easy to figure out what they should be paying you.
Selling gold can be quite profitable. As a matter of fact, the worth of such items has significantly increased and continues to do so. However, there are people who will take the unsuspecting consumer. Taking the time to find the right buyer can save you money in the long run.

This makes me see things in a whole new perspective!
hmm thanks for the heads up. with the current economy your tips might be very useful!
As you say, you need to know your value of gold scrap before you find a buyer. Some pay less than half what it's worth.
